How many restrooms does a wedding need?
A 150-guest, 5-hour wedding with a bar needs 5 standard porta potties, or a 2-stall restroom trailer plus 2 units. Plan one unit per 40 guests for 5 to 8 hours, then add 1 for every 4 units when alcohol is served. Include 1 wheelchair-accessible unit.

|---|---|---|
| 50 | 3 | 1 two-stall trailer |
| 100 | 4 | 1 two-stall trailer + 1 unit |
| 150 | 5 | 1 two-stall trailer + 2 units |
| 250 | 9 | 1 four-stall trailer + 3 units |

Should you rent a restroom trailer or porta potties for a wedding?
Rent a restroom trailer when the venue has a garden hose within 75 feet and a standard outlet, and guests are in formal wear. Rent deluxe flushing porta potties when there is no water or power. Deluxe units have a sink, soap and towels and need no hookups.
| Restroom trailer | Deluxe flushing unit | Standard unit | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feel | Like a home bathroom | Clean and bright, with a sink | Basic |
| Needs | Hose, 110V outlet, level ground | Nothing | Nothing |
| Lead time | Book 4+ weeks ahead | 1–2 weeks | Days |
| Weak spot | Will not work on slopes or far from water | Holds fewer uses than a trailer | No sink |
When should you book wedding restrooms?
Book wedding restroom trailers 4 to 8 weeks ahead, and 3 months ahead for June, September and October Saturdays. Deluxe porta potties can be booked 1 to 2 weeks out. The trailer is placed the day before or the morning of the wedding and picked up the next business day.
Barn and farm venues around Columbus often sit on wells and septic. Ask the venue where the hose bib and outlets are before you choose a trailer.
Wedding restroom questions
Can a restroom trailer work at a farm or barn wedding?
A restroom trailer works at a farm wedding if there is level ground, a garden hose within about 75 feet and a standard outlet. Farms on a well can use a water tank add-on instead. Without power, choose deluxe flushing units.
Do the porta potties come with sinks for guests?
Deluxe flushing units have a foot-pump sink, soap and paper towels inside. Standard units have hand sanitizer. Many couples pair standard units with a two-sided handwashing station placed between them.
Can the units be placed out of sight of the ceremony?
Units can sit behind a barn, a hedge or the tent line, as long as the truck can get within about 15 feet. Walk the spot with us on the phone and we will flag any slope or soft ground.
Is someone there to clean during the reception?
Units and trailers arrive fully cleaned and stocked with extra paper. For receptions over 200 guests, plan for a family member or venue staff to restock paper mid-evening. Supplies are left inside.
