How many handwashing stations do you need?

Plan 1 handwashing station for every 4 porta potties at events with food, and at least 1 per event. Construction sites must provide handwashing under OSHA 1926.51(f). Farms with 11 or more field workers need 1 handwashing facility per 20 workers under OSHA 1928.110.

Run your count in the calculator.

Should you get a station or a unit with a sink?

Get a handwashing station when several toilets share it, when food is served away from the restrooms, or when kids need to wash often. Get a deluxe unit with a sink inside when you want one self-contained restroom for a small group. A standard unit plus a station often costs less than one deluxe unit.

Compare in the station vs sink guide and see the deluxe flushing unit.

Handwashing station questions

Does a handwashing station need a hose?

A handwashing station carries its own fresh water and needs no hose or power. It arrives filled. Long rentals get refilled at each weekly service visit.

Can a station go next to the food tent instead of the toilets?

A station can stand anywhere on firm ground. Many hosts put one near the toilets and a second by the food line. Keep stations out of direct sun when possible so the water stays cool.

Is hand sanitizer enough for my party?

Hand sanitizer works for a short party without food. When food is served, when kids attend, or for any job site, soap and running water clean hands better, so a station is the safer choice.

How long does one fill last?

One fill handles about 300 hand washes, enough for a 150-guest event. For larger crowds or multi-day events, add a second station or a mid-event refill.
