Will a standard porta potty fit through my gate?

A standard porta potty is about 44 inches wide, so it fits through a 4-foot gate with a little room for the driver. The path needs to be firm and fairly level, because the unit rolls on a hand truck. Steps, steep slopes and soft lawns after rain may mean placing it near the driveway instead.

When is a standard unit the right choice?

A standard porta potty is the right choice for job sites, backyard parties under 50 guests, farm crews, sports fields and short-term home needs. It is the wrong choice when guests expect a sink or when a guest uses a wheelchair. For those, add a handwashing station or choose an accessible unit.

Standard unit questions

Does a standard porta potty flush?

A standard porta potty does not flush. Waste drops into a sealed tank with a deodorizing blue chemical that controls odor. If you want a flushing toilet, choose the deluxe flushing unit with a foot pump.

Does a standard porta potty have hand washing?

A standard unit has a hand sanitizer dispenser inside, not a sink. For events with food or for kids, add a two-sided handwashing station placed next to the unit.

How many uses does a standard porta potty hold?

A standard porta potty holds about 200 uses before it needs pumping. That covers a 50-guest party for an afternoon, or a 10-person crew for about a week.

Does it smell?

A clean, serviced unit has a mild deodorizer scent. The vent stack pulls air up and out. Placing the unit in shade and away from the patio keeps odor away from guests on hot days.
